Flu Season 2020-21

This year it is more important than ever to get yourself vaccinated against flu. The eligibility criteria has been expanded to include all those over the age of 50 and everyone in an ‘at risk’ category.

Who is eligible for a free annual NHS Flu Vaccination?

  • adults 50 and over (previous years over 65)
  • people with certain medical conditions (including children in at-risk groups from 6 months of age)
  • pregnant women
  • children aged 2 and 3 on 31 August 2020
  • children in primary school
  • frontline health or social care workers
  • shielded patients and their households

Vaccines and Delivery Dates

There are three different drugs available for flu vaccinations this year.

Over 65 years old – Fluad

18-64 years old – Flucelvax Quadrivalent

Under 18s – Nasal spray unless contraindicated

Adult Flu Clinics

Please wear a mask, be prepared with an umbrella if the weather is bad and maintain social distancing if there is a need to queue.

Car Parking will be challenging and we want to make sure that those who really need to park close by are able to. We therefore respectfully ask that if you can, you park elsewhere.

A car park attendant will turn you away if you are not very frail or disabled.

Cohort 1 – Tuesday September 15th – 

  • All adults aged 75+
  • High risk shielded adults aged 65+

This is a walk-in clinic ie no need to book. Please turn up at the following times according to your surname

Surname A – CH 9.30- 10.30am
Surname CI –FL 10.30-11.30am
Surname FO-H 11.30-12.30am
Surname I-MI 12.30-1.30pm
Surname MO-RO 1.30pm-2.30pm
Surname RO-T 2.30pm-3.30pm
Surname T-Z 3.30pm– 4.00pm
Patient who can’t make earlier times 4.00-5.00pm

Cohort 2 – Tuesday October 6th

  • Patients aged 18-64 with long term conditions usually eligible for flu vaccination

Cohort 3 – Weekday Clinics

Book ahead clinics now available for booking from late September, mostly Tues & Thurs afternoons. These will be added according to demand

  • Patients aged 65+ who do not fall into above categories
  • Household members of shielded patients

Date to be Confirmed – Cohort 4

  • Other 50-64 year olds (low risk) – likely to be later on in the season when we have confirmation of the delivery date of the vaccination

If you are coming to the surgery for an appointment with one of our doctors or nurses we will be able to give you your flu vaccinations at the same time.  If it is impossible for you to make the time you have been allocated for a Tuesday clinic, you may turn up at a different time or book into one of the adhoc clinics we are holding mostly on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons throughout September and October but we ask that you only do this when absolutely necessary or we will stand a chance of running out of vaccine or long queues.

If your spouse or partner falls into a different category than you, please feel free to come together.

Housebound and Care Home Patients

Patients on our agreed housebound list and those who live in a care home will be visited and vaccinated at home or at the care home

Other Adult Clinics

For those really unable to attend their alloated clinc dates there will be a limited number of pre-bookable weekday clinics available. You can just turn up 4pm-5pm on either of our Cohort 1 or Cohort 2 Tuesdays and take your chance that we have sufficient vaccine left or else call reception or go online to book another time.
